JUNE 11TH DAY 163

PEACEFUL

163 DAYS MAINLY WHEAT FREE - 6 DAYS OUT OF 30  EXERCISING

TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR 2012:- 22 kg/ 48.5 lbs

I really had to push myself to be ready to leave Rotorua by 9.30 am. Some mornings I am able to be up and doing by 7 am with no problem. Others, and there are far too many of them, I struggle with feeling unwell and my body will not respond to my desire to get moving. Today was one of the latter. I had to keep sitting down because I felt so sick. Somehow I was in the car on time, mostly thanks to John nagging me and doing most of the packing with half-hearted instructions from me. He got everything loaded in the car so all I had to do was walk out and get in. Even that had it's moments as I realised my eyesight was playing up. I had no depth perception and had to feel for the steps. So annoying.

We arrived in good time at the hospital and found our way to the Vascular Clinic where John was seen promptly. We were a little bit cross when the Dr. agreed he had a problem but would have to come back for a further appointment to have an ultra-sound test on his bad leg. This will probably take about 30 minutes. We had expected all the necessary tests to be booked in for today. The consultation with the specialist took less than 30 minutes. We live 180 km/112 miles from Waikato Hospital and because some of the roads are hilly and twisty it takes us more than 3 hours to drive there. Not only that but it will probably be two months before they can give him another appointment. Hopefully this is the one when he will be told whether or not surgery is required. We are hoping they decide to operate and fix the problem this year rather than leaving it until he is totally unfit as neglected this can lead to amputation.

In the meantime he is to take asprin and a statin, neither of which I am happy about but if we want treatment we have to follow the party rules. We added CoQ10 to John's list of daily supplements. John's problems stem from old injuries rather than any form of disease. Over the years he sustained two separate crush injuries in relatively minor industrial accidents. We often wondered if there would be problems later in his life. Now we know.

At least we were out of the hospital before midday and on our way to Morrinsville where we had lunch. We arrived in Whitianga on time for me to have the 2nd session of acupuncture on my face and get all our prescriptions made up.  We got our groceries and spent a lot more than usual because I needed to replenish a few things we would purchase once or twice a year. I also caved in and bought an easiyo maker. It's a simple system for making yoghurt which we have used in the past but somehow the equipment had been lost, probably given away. We popped in to see out daughter and tell her about our day and were home just after 6 pm. I bought a rotisserie chicken for tea and we cooked a few veggies.

Today we drove about 310 km/200 miles, total time about 5 hours. We began in showery weather with a glimpse of sun now and then. On top of the Mamaku hills the rain felt cold enough to be snowing. As we got closer to home the sun was very bright and there were times I had to completely cover my bad eye. We unloaded the car in the dark, glad it wasn't raining.

Now it's time for bed. and tomorrow might be a very lazy day.

  2. Oh! That hospital scheduling is just inexcusable! If you haven't already, next time the hospital tests are involved make sure you inform whoever you talk with that you live far away and need all necessary tests scheduled n the same day. Ask if there is anyone else you need to speak with to make that happen. Really, requiring you to make another trip to the hospital is totally unacceptable.

ANd, yes, you absolutely need for tomorrow to be a relaxing day!

Hugs, MargieAnne, I hope your sleep is sweet.
