Stinky weather. Ready to walk but it's raining again.

I seem to have run out of energy and maybe there's a good reason. Well, maybe not a good reason but a real one. I might have a flare up of a virus.

I've just had a chat with my daughter, the nurse, and we are beginning to think I did not have a mini stroke but have Bells Palsy. Still %$#%^%$^#.

The symptoms are right in line with Bells Palsy but a small stroke still needs to be eliminated. as does the possibility of some other neurological damage but we won't go there right now. Apparently Bells Palsy is most likely caused by herpes simplex and maybe Epstein-Barr virus.

When I consider that herpes have been causing neuralgia down one side of my face for the last few years during times of stress and the big health battle I have experienced for 35 years is ME, (myalgic encephaolmyelitis), or CFS, (chronic fatigue syndrome), which is frequently caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, Bells Palsy seems the most likely cause. Add to that my normal blood tests and the paralysis being limited to parts of my face and it all makes sense

It's too late now for the standard treatment for Bells Palsy which is a steroid but I don't think I'll weep over that. I'm just fed up that it's going to take another month before I can hope for a more accurate diagnosis.

It's great to have a Govt. funded health system but it can mean waiting times for what seem to me to be important tests and treatment. I don't see a specialist until mid-April and apparently the specialist is the only person who can order a CT scan. I do see my Dr. next Friday and I will push her to get things hurried up because the other alternative, a tumour, is very scary. I would be a basket case if I thought for more than a fleeting moment a tumour is the cause. It will be 2 months from the onset of these symptoms before I see the specialist. That doesn't make sense to me.

It brasses me off that the attitude of doctors is centred on my weight and high blood pressure. One thing I hate about being more than a healthy weight is that other people, including doctors, jump to conclusions and expect you to have illness associated with being fat.

Rant over.

Reporting Back ..........

The weather improved but I kept dozing off.

I'm thinking that I've blown it again by walking for longer periods than I can manage on a daily basis long term. It's a typical pattern. I really enjoy my walks and I do make sure I pace myself but the 'crash' I'm experiencing has happened before. Back to the boring old 15 - 20 minutes maximum in the morning and SLOWLY BUILD week by week. It's not really boring and I should have energy to go out for a second walk if I want to.

I must remember I am restoring my health, not training for a walking marathon.

How did I do?

Another very lazy day. Food and drink OK. No walking but I think I've found a solution.

  1. Stew had Bells Palsy as a teenager twice!
He has a lopsided smile due to it.
If you only have symptoms in your face, it probably is that and not a stroke.
It does suck that you can't be seen by a specialist quicker!

And my Doctor (s) seem to put much down to my weight too... though I am guilty of thinking the same thing!

I am sure we will all be much healthier for losing some weight and doing regular exercise!
